Baking bread...
Terrible Japanese puns...
69 episodes...
...I can't believe I watched the whole thing. The show revolves around a young bread baker trying to develop a bread that Japan can call its own. He's so talented that anybody who eats his bread has an intense involuntary reaction that explains the taste of the bread through a shitty Japanese pun.
Does anybody get this?
The puns are so bad that I declare Yakitate!! Japan to be undubbable. The puns don't even make sense in Japanese! Anybody who could write a competent dub for even three consecutive episodes of the show should eligible for the Millenium Prize.
Wondering how I stuck through the whole series? So am I. Here's my justification so far:
1. I almost stopped watching after a few episodes. Then, out of nowhere, a hilarious ambiguously gay character was introduced.
2. Yakitate!! Japan features the most badass second ending theme with a catchy dance sequence since Naruto's Ino and Sakura danced to Harmonia by RYTHEM.
3. Yakitate!! Japan proved that I'll watch anything in tournament format. Baking bread? Lame. A bread baking tournament?
Awesome.

This show is a bit on the zany side, not as much as Excel Saga or Pani Poni Dash!, but if that appeals to you, you can bias my rating upward. You still won't get the puns though.
