Some manga artists know how to end a plot arc without ruining its flow. Then there's Rumiko Takahashi, the queen of contrived plot extensions. Some of you might be thinking, "can it really be that much shittier than Naruto Filler?". Well there's a big difference: the Naruto manga doesn't have any filler. Rumiko Takahashi, on the other hand, draws all this crap first hand. Consider a recent development in the Inu Yasha manga:
I'm still losing sleep over how shitty that is. Sesshomaru doesn't get enough coverage as it is; now you're taking away his only potential rival by having Naraku absorb Moryomaru with a magical tree? Get Sesshomaru a decent fight for a change:
Random demons | Apathetically slaughters them |
Inu Yasha I | Inu Yasha gets lucky |
Inu Yasha II | Inu Yasha runs away |
Inu Yasha III | Inu Yasha gets lucky again |
Inu Yasha IV | Wins, apathetically walks away |
Inu Yasha V | Wins, apathetically walks away |
Inu Yasha VI | Smacks Inu Yasha, fights Naraku |
Kagura | Apathetically/Unintentionally seduces Kagura |
Naraku I | Naraku runs away |
Naraku II | Naraku runs away |
Naraku III | Naraku runs away |
Naraku IV | Naraku runs away |
Giant Cat | Gets pissed off, regains composure, Apathetically kills it |
Mukotsu | Apathetically kills him |
Suikotsu | Beats him down, lets Kikyo take the credit |
Jakotsu | Stabs him, Jakotsu calls him hot and runs away |
Guardians of the Gate | Scares them into submission, apathetically walks past them |
Moryomaru I | Moryomaru runs away |
Moryomaru II | Sesshomaru actually tries, Moryomaru actually wins |
Moryomaru III | Oh wait, this never happened |
Byakuya | Just stands there apathetically because Byakuya sucks |
Master of Hell | Chops off its arm, levels up, it disappears somehow |
Masked dude | Kills him, levels up |
Against all those enemies (except Moryomaru), there's either no tension, only one round, somebody running away, or Inu Yasha getting lucky. Moryomaru was easily the most suitable opponent for Sesshomaru:
I shouldn't be surprised that Rumiko ruined it. It's not the first time she's used a shitty explanation to slip out the back door of a complex situation (see Salad-chan). Now she's trying (unconvincingly) to make up new explanations for the plot extensions that are consistent with the old plot, all the while refusing to enlighten us as to why Shippo and Koga even exist. They're so damn useless. (I'll add them later)
Rumiko Takahashi ruined 376 rivalries with shitty plot extensions
